Graduation!
Well, it's over. High school is done and over with. I will now speak of it in past tense. But we had a blast on Saturday. It turned out to be a beautiful morning...the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the ever-so-dreadful sound of alarm clocks were going off at 6 A.M. Yup, today was the day.We soon arrived at the church at 7:30 to the bright and energetic faces of the Morgan family. I was still quite dead, to say the least, but that doesn't matter when you have work to do! It didn't take long to make the bare fellowship hall into a thriving party scene. The Chartier's arrived with their clan as did the Storrie's. Food was being prepared, tables were being decorated, and cakes were being pulled out. But a party wouldn't be a party if something didn't go wrong, right? Well, we soon found out, much to our disbelief, that the church that we rented had been double booked. That's right! Another group had a piano recital at 9 and 10, but our graduation ceremony was at 10. So after a few hair-pulling minutes we worked out a compromise...they would have the sanctuary from 9 o'clock to 9:45, we had it from 10 till......whenever we were done, and then they would have it again. Yep, in the words of the great, Calvin and Hobbes, "A good compromise leaves everybody hostile." But praise God, it all worked out wonderfully.
After more scurrying around and the grads and bros practicing their singing, and picture taking, (I thought those were over with!) the ceremony got under way. I think it went really well. The message was amiably given by Mr. Langemann. We sang our songs, (which, to God's Glory, went very well) and diplomas were recieved. And I achieved two of my goals and they were:
1. Don't Cry.
2. Don't trip on my gown.
Ok, really, the first goal I wasn't really worried about at all, but hey, who knows what might happen. The second goal, to tell you the truth, terrified me. I thought how many times I had to go up and down stairs and all I could think of was stepping on that gown and down comes graduate, tassle and all. But, thank goodness, that did not happen.
It was so good to see so many friendly faces there. The day was so much fun! The food was very good. (When I actually got to eat it. You don't get much time to eat when you have a party in your honor.) And the cakes were to die for! They were flawlessly made by....uh....Yum-Yum and her family. *I haven't gotten permission to post their real names. :) * And for some reason, people wanted an encore from the "Grads and their Bros" and so we had the priviledge of singing our songs once again. And why not? We've already sang them 146 times so far, so what's one more? Other activities of the day were: Football, Tackle football, Ultimate frisbee, playing in the sand, swinging, going down slides, and all the other fun stuff that the kids did without me.
So that, my friends, is the story of the day I gajeaded. (In a nut shell of course.) I hope you enjoyed it. Toodles!
Until next time,
Andrew
