Our Trip: Chapter 1: CP! Get-Together: First Night

Alright, we left on Wednesday at 5:15 a.m. heading due east toward Elizabeth, IL where the Crist family was graciously opening up their house for the weekend for all the peeps that were coming. We crossed the Mississippi in the town of Dubuque, IA which is basically at the corner of Wisconsin and Illinois. I've never been to Wisconsin. I thought that this is the perfect oppurtunity. But NO, the big-bad older brothers didn't want to take ten minutes to just drive in, make a quick U-turn and drive out and be able to say that we've been to Wisconsin. I don't want to bad mouth them. They know I'm joking. They did have a good reason and that was that we didn't want to arrive at the Crist's around 10:30. That wouldn't have been very good for "first impressions."
So we drove through the gorgeous town of Galena, IL. And I'm telling you, it is gorgeous. Full of green, rolling hills, trees everywhere and only one Wal-Mart. I didn't even see a McDonald's.
It had that old-time town feeling to it. Ulysses S. Grant lived there so the town has a very historical look and background to it.
Alright, 6.2 miles later, we pulled up to the Crist's home and was greeted by the entire family. There is Mr. & Mrs. Crist, Aubrey, (and her husband, Jeff) Brittany, Tess, Josh, Anna, and Ben. We exchanged our hello's and it's-nice-to-meet-you's, went inside, talked, had delicious chocolate cake and talked some more, you know, the get to know you better kind of stuff. Then we got a quick tour of the basement because that's where we would be staying. I was almost sure I would get lost in there. It just keeps going. But they have a beautiful home. Not just a house, it's a home. We then said our good nights and we all went off to bed, but as I was looking around I couldn't help but notice a book called Les Miserable, and by golly, I started reading the thing. (Once I was able to fit my hands around it. That thing's huge!) And it's actually good. I mean, it kept my attention. I got through, I think, Chapter seven, which isn't a lot but hey, seven chapters is alot by my standards. But it does help to know some French. If you don't, then good luck, my friend. So, that was the first day and it was good.
